The Farmers Arms is a quintessential 14th century, Grade II Listed, thatched Inn, located 7 miles North West of the county town of Taunton and 9 miles North of Wellington. The property exudes character with exposed cob walls, low beamed ceilings, mediaeval fireplace and flagstone floors. The property was almost completely rebuilt following a fire in January 2017. The rebuild was done very sympathetically, retaining almost all of the original features at ground floor level whilst adding some modernised areas including the customer toilet extension, an extended bar, completely redesigned and reequipped commercial kitchen and a glazed block which allows more light into the premises. The business was reopened in late November 2018, reestablishing itself as one of the most popular country inns in Somerset.

Property Information

The Farmers Arms is located just outside of the beautiful village of Combe Florey, not far from the A358 Taunton to Minehead road, within striking distance of the Quantock Hills (Area of Outstanding National Beauty). The village is noted as being the main residence of the English writer Evelyn Waugh who is buried in a private plot of land next to the churchyard.

If travelling by car, access is on the south side of the second bridge from Taunton (A358), under the West Somerset Railway.

The Farmers Arms benefits from two car parks and a large outside trading area to the front of the pub. This is used in the summer months with seating at long rustic tables/benches and a temporary marquee structure over. Further smoking shelter, log storage shed, oil tank and bat roost.

The Farmers Arms is a very successful traditional country pub with a wide-reaching reputation throughout Somerset and beyond.

The business has re-established itself very quickly and grown significantly since its refurbishment, offering a warm welcome to both locals and regulars and also the many customers who come from further afield. The Farmers Arms excudes character with low beam ceilings and flagstone floors and offers a quintessential English Country pub experience.

The building provides plenty of flexibility for drinking, dining and function trade, with the added advantage of the outside trading space, which is extremely popular during the summer months.

The Farmers Arms prides itself on a wide ranging quality menu focusing on tasty cuisine in keeping with the Inn, using local and fresh produce. The bar is well stocked with a wide range of real ales, ciders, excellent wines and spirits.

The business is run by the owners at ‘arm’s length’, one of whom has another full time job, with a compliment of full time and part time staff.

The Farmers Arms is everything a country inn should be; plenty of character, friendly service, fantastic food, well-kept beer and a great atmosphere. Whilst the inn is renowned for its food, it has not lost its identity as a 'proper pub' with a dedicated bar and a place for locals and regulars to meet; as well as visitors to the area. The inn is also family and dog friendly.
