In the past, it was the financial center of the Genoa colony in Istanbul. Voyvoda Street, known as Bankalar Street, was the Wall Street of that period. The commercial center of the city was on the opposite side of the Golden Horn, between Sirkeci-Eminönü and Grand Bazaar. In other words, trade was on one side and finance on the other.
