WOK&GO DONATES ANOTHER £2000 TO COMMUNITY-RUN FOOD CLUB

24 March 2021

Wok&Go has given another incredibly generous donation to a vital food distribution service for those in need.

The Port Grocery aims to divert food from landfill so that it can go to people in need. It has been a vital part of the Ellesmere Port and wider Cheshire community since 2016. Now, with £2000 worth of Wok&Go vouchers, The Port Grocery will be able help more people than ever.

The donation was orchestrated by Des Pheby, founder of the noodle bar franchise Wok&Go who wanted to treat families in the area during the winter months. The vouchers are now available for existing club members as well as new arrivals. Speaking about the generous

donation Mr Pheby stated:

"I think we've all had about enough of the past few months. We wanted to add a little extra for the people of Ellesmere Port."

This is not the first time that Wok&Go has committed its support to The Port Grocery, with two previous donations of £2000 in February and November 2020.

Founder of The Port Grocery, Rita Lewis, said:

"People are coming together to help and protect each other. This amazing offer from Wok&Go demonstrates how businesses want to help our community. For some, going for a Wok&Go is a luxury or a treat. Wok&Go have now made this available to many of our members who are feeling the pinch with furlough and job losses. It couldn't have come at a better time to lift the spirits of our members. Well done Wok&Go."

This also comes off the back of Wok&Go’s commitment to free kids’ meals during half-term, as well as a donation of over 1000 free meals for the NHS. The NHS meals were a thank you to all of the staff at Chester Countess Hospital as they worked through the pandemic.

Business development manager, Shaun Jones, said:

"People already have enough to worry about, never mind with the added pressures of the winter period. This is our small way of giving back to the local community, and encouraging other local businesses to do the same if they are able."
