Alex Printie is our youngest franchisee at just 24 at his time of joining. His varied career history brings some crucial skills necessary for running a successful venture although he has no previous experience of running his own business or working in the commercial cleaning industry.

Five years’ service in the British Army and further management roles in the telecommunications and leisure industries have helped Alex develop excellent people management skills. Alex always harboured dreams of becoming his own boss, but upon leaving the army, he didn’t have the funds to invest immediately. So whilst embarking on other careers, he began planning his future and researched possible business models and industries for when the time was right.

Due to its low-risk structure and the backing and support of a big company, franchising stood out to Alex. The commercial cleaning industry instantly appealed to him due to the solid opportunity for growth and the constant levels of demand it enjoys. Once Alex was in a financial position to embark on his business venture he directly contacted Jani-King and was impressed and assured by not only the communication he had with us, but also the level of professionalism and the overall marketing presence of the business.

In January 2017, Alex signed up to his Plan 10 business structure but chose to delay his training until April.

‘The training was fantastic as it not only taught me the practical skills required for cleaning, but also operational management issues I hadn’t considered such as managing staffing levels and balancing the need for full time and part time staff.’

Just three weeks after finishing his training, Alex’s business was immediately underway with two contracts offered under our Guaranteed Business Promise. As part of our Plan 10 structure, Alex’s business was up and running with £10,000 of monthly turnover from the outset! The first clients to his portfolio that his team will be servicing include some restaurants and two car dealerships, both requiring specialist cleaning processes, the variety and challenge of which Alex relishes. 

‘I enjoy the combination of requirements my customers have. For example, the car dealerships need my team to maintain not only the pristine car showrooms, but also the staff areas and more challenging car workshops!’

Alex has grand aspirations for the future of his business. He wants to expand quickly but remain flexible and respond to opportunities as they arise. He will pursue a combination of winning his own contracts but also accepting those offered by Jani-King.
