Why do so many people want to buy a restaurant? Well, few things elicit is as much enthusiasm as food. Everyone has to eat every day and most people enjoy the activity! Secondly, people buy a restaurant because it’s a sociable, atmospheric environment where basking in the enthusiastic feedback for good service or fantastic food is a major perk. It’s not the sort of enthusiasm a newsagent owner can count on!

Buy a restaurant because you think you have the right attributes and are willing to embrace the risks and tolerate the stress and working on weekends; don’t be seduced by the perceived glamour of restaurants for sale.
But buy a restaurant for lease or freehold and arguably you’re not suffocated by competition from major chains in the way that, say, independent food retailers can be by supermarkets. While a retail chain benefits from being able to afford larger premises and a wider range of goods than independents, for restaurants small tends to equate to intimacy and a pleasant ambience. While you know what you’re getting from a major chain, finding a hidden gem that makes a lasagne quite unlike anywhere else will impress your dinner date more than an identikit chain eatery.
