What’s new for club members this week

One year on

Shrewsbury-based double glazing firm Heritage Glass is proud of its record in employing older workers. All its sales staff are over 60. But it was posing a problem for sales director Tony Randall when profiled in April last year. He had to convince them to adopt new ways of working. “We have since taken many steps forward,” he said. “Our older team members have been busy getting up to speed with new technology.” Read what happened at www.telegraphbusinessclub.co.uk.

Book of the week

Geoff King reckons he can help sales staff meet or exceed their sales targets. His Secrets of Selling: How to Win in any Sales Situation is available at a 40pc discount for Business Club members, who will pay £7.79 via the club’s online bookshop.

TalkBack

RattleBuster, featured on this page two weeks ago, has created a CD to play in a car that replicates vibration to help drivers locate irritating noises. But too few copies were being sold. “A major problem with this is that it is attempting to solve a problem for which people don’t know there is a solution,” said Business Club member Peter Martin from Shape the Future, “so PR is probably the best way forward”. Go to the TalkBack section on the club website – and add your own advice.

Business Clinic

“How can I network?” asks a member on the club’s new Business Clinic. Jo Causon, director of marketing and corporate affairs at the Chartered Management Institute, suggests: “Many people assume that to be a successful ‘networker’ you need the ability to ‘work the room’. You don’t.” Read her advice at www.telegraphbusinessclub.co.uk/clinic.
