Simon Gordon on the history of Gordon's Wine Bar...

"We bought Gordon's in 1974 from the previous owner, the wine bar's been going since 1890. My father bought the bar and I worked here for 18 months when I was 18 years old.

"Thirty years later, when my father sadly died, I took over the bar and now run the bar myself."

On expanding the business...

"We have expanded most of the outside area, there's a nice barbecue which is really popular in the summer, it's actually popular all year round!

We bought Gordon's in 1974 from the previous owner, the wine bar's been going since 1890

"In the old days when I first took the bar over, as soon as it started raining everyone tried to get inside and because it's tiny inside everyone used to go home. Nowadays they can stay outside, even if it's pouring down they stay outside."

On the customers...

"People come back here because the food's fantastic, the staff are nice and the wine is really good value. It's got a real party atmosphere and I think that's why we get a lot of people coming back.

"We get lots of people bringing their grandchildren in here, I get people asking me if they can save a table so they can propose to their girlfriends, that happens at least once a month."
