Business description
The business was bought in 1999 as a going concern and occupies the niche market retail sector of providing school uniforms, sports equipment, educational toys, dancewear and club clothing inclusive of the scouts and guides uniforms. They supply a range of local schools and clubs in a ten-mile radius from the shops city centre location.

Up until recently the business was part of a national franchise. This franchise has now disbanded the results of which have been all positive. Supply lines remain unchanged and the financial impact is a positive one as no franchise fees are now payable.

All other aspects of the business remain demonstrably unchanged but there is now the opportunity to increase the range of suppliers that is to the benefit of both company and customer.

This is one of very few commercial sectors that is unaffected by changes in the economy as growing children always have to have the correct clothing for school and as such demand is consistent.

The shop has specific trading agreements with twenty-seven primary and ten secondary schools in the area and also supplies many other educational establishments in the region. All of these arrangements are long standing and there is significant opportunity to grow this business.

Location
The shop is located in a secondary shopping area close to the city centre and within easy reach of local car parks.
The shop has a large glassed frontage of approximately thirty feet. The interior covers an area of circa one thousand square feet and has been well equipped with both wall mounted and floor standing display racks. There is a small admin office to the rear and a large basement storage area for lockable stock rooms and access to the rear of the premises.
The property is subject to a ten-year lease of which five years remain. The annual rent is £14,000 per annum with commercial rates being an additional £7000

Expansion potential
The business has been maintained at a size and turnover to suit the requirements of the owners. There has been no advertising and as an example the company only has supply agreements with around twenty five percent of the primary schools in the area. The business has not actively approached any educational or sporting club for over six years and even out sources the embroidery aspect of its business. If this were brought in house the revenue stream would generate a further £10,000 per annum.

Competition / Market
The business does not advertise.

Reasons for selling
The owners have decided to retire but will remain available to ensure that a full and professional handover is made available to the purchaser for a period to be agreed as part of the sales negotiation.
