their rights driven through consumer watchdogs, regulation and the
media. Hand in hand with this is a society that are driven to
buying on line, having door step delivery and having what they,
when they want and in the colour they want it!
TV programmes such as House of Horrors, Rogue
Traders and others, develop distrust between consumers and
tradesmen resulting in them turning to who they know and trust i.e.
known brands. Sadly though, within many tradesman based sectors
these big brands just don't exist and inevitably the stories seen
on such TV programmes will continue to be witnessed with little
regulation or self regulation allowing the sector to continue to be
distrusted.

a series of focus groups one of our partner brands Yale had a 100%
unprompted recollection, leading way to comments such as 'trust',
'established' and 'solid'.
In this same research, no one locksmith could be
recalled either prompted or unprompted and in general there was
great distrust of locksmiths.
This gives rise to a somewhat interesting mix of
a highly trusted brand acting as the foundation stone and
credibility for a distrusted locksmith. This mix is not unique and
can be seen all across the retail sector where consumers would buy
a brand name from a corner shop but not the shops own brand. The
key difference is that with regards security, we are dealing with
one of the consumers basic human needs – security.
