Be Part of the Barter
Boom
With over 55,000 businesses worldwide,
Bartercard International (BCI) is the world's
largest Trade Exchange and is internationally recognised as the
leader in its field.
The Bartercard Trading Programme
enables businesses to trade in goods and services without the need
for cash. It allows organisations to grow and diversify whilst
saving on their outlay and thus helping control cash-flow. This
age-old form of business has been brought into the 21st century by
Bartercard's unique methods of accountability, support and
security.
Established in Australia in 1991 and in the UK in
1996, Bartercard has seen unprecedented levels of
growth in membership and trade volume. It now facilitates trading
of more than US$2 billion per year world wide. By concentrating on
the largest single sector of the business market - small to medium
sized enterprises - Bartercard UK has proved that
this form of trading is a vital part of the new economy
Bartercard is a founding member
of the International Reciprocal Trade Association (IRTA) which
provides the industry with direction and guidelines.
Bartercard UK is also a member of the British
Franchise Association (BFA).
How Bartercard Works
The Bartercard principle is
quite simple. It is a fast growing membership based trading
organisations who have agreed to trade with one another by using
Bartercard system. Bartercard members buy and sell
products and services in the same way as they would in a cash
transaction - the difference being, instead of cash, the medium of
exchange is the Trade Pound (T£). Acting as a 'clearing
house', Bartercard offers an accounting and
administrative facility which records the debits and credits of all
members. Once Bartercard members make contact with each other and
establish they can do business they can then commence a
transaction.
For example, a printer purchases T£500 worth
of services from a garage. The printer's account is then debited by
T£500, whilst the garage receives a T£500 credit. The
garage does not have to buy from the printer, but can use it's
Trade Pounds to purchase from any Bartercard
member - so giving access to a vast array of goods and
services.
This flexibility is what makes
Bartercard such an attractive proposition to
businesses that wish to grow and conserve cash at the same
time.
How the transaction
works
A Bartercard transaction is
similar to a credit card transaction. The purchaser simply provides
their card details and the seller then completes a transaction
voucher. This is authorised and the seller gives a copy to
Bartercard. Once received by Bartercard the
relevant accounts are credited and debited accordingly.
Most importantly - as a franchisee you will
receive an income stream from the transactions relevant to your
franchise.

The Economist Magazine claims that
by 2010, 50% of world trade will be done through barter, and
according to The International Reciprocal Trade Exchange (IRTA) the
official barter volume grows three times as fast as the cash
trade.
This is a unique opportunity to join this worldwide boom industry
– an industry that performs as well in recession as it does
in periods of economic growth – and build a substantial
business.
