The School House is a recently refurbished property situated on the shore of Loch Long in an area synonymous with tourism with inspiring scenery all around. Located close to Eilean Donan Castle the business is ideally situated to take advantage of this iconic attraction. The original building was in its previous ‘life’ part of the village school.. This compact property has been renovated to a high standard by the vendors and separated off from the adjacent Coffee Shop. The trading model of the School House Rooms is on a room only basis with communal kitchen facilities available for guest use; the owners do presently provide a limited selection of foodstuffs and condiments. The available accommodation extends to 4 en-suite letting bedrooms, of which one is set aside for private use by the proprietor. Rooms are let out either on a daily basis or for longer term residents. The current operation is based upon the provision of a quality and comfortable accommodation service. It is evident that the vendor has invested a great deal of time and money into the business. It is the vendor’s belief that the property could be easily operated as a holiday cottage/ home providing a good return on investment and requiring the minimum of day to day input.
The A87 is a busy main trunk road leading to the Isle of Skye but the area surrounding Dornie is also a popular destination for a wide range of visitors. The village of Dornie has and has a number of food establishments, with some venues also having traditional music nights. The village also has a convenience store providing a range of basic provisions and services. Situated close to Kyle of Lochalsh with its excellent range of shops, catering establishments, facilities for visitors and services for the local population, the area is renowned as a tourist destination and is widely recognised as one of the most attractive holiday and outdoor venues in the UK. The region is one of the most stunning, rugged and un-spoilt areas of the North West Highlands of Scotland, close to the Isle of Skye and the mountains of Kintail and the dramatic Glen Shiel regions, which boast 14 Munros. The north side of the glen is formed by the famous Five Sisters range. The area attracts many mountaineers and outdoor enthusiasts as the terrain in this area boasts some of the most magnificent scenery found anywhere in the U.K. with many additional attractions and magical places to visit. The waters around Dornie, enhanced by the spectacular back-drop of Eilean Donan Castle, provide great sport for sea kayakers and other water sport enthusiasts. The nearby Falls of Glomach are one of the highest and probably the most dramatic waterfalls in Britain at 370 feet high. Diverse wildlife can be readily seen in the area, including wild deer, pine martin, buzzard, porpoise, the elusive otter and even the magnificent golden eagle.
At the foot of the Glen is the village of Dornie with famous Eilean Donan Castle. As one of the most romantic images of Scotland, Eilean Donan Castle is renowned the world over. Situated on an island at the point where three great sea lochs meet, and surrounded by some majestic scenery and is now one of the most visited and important attractions in the Scottish Highlands. Initially inhabited around the 6th century, the first fortified castle was built in the mid-13th century and stood guard over the lands of Kintail. Partially destroyed in a Jacobite uprising in 1719, Eilean Donan lay in ruins for the best part of 200 years until bought in 1911 and restored to its former glory. It was re-opened in 1932.
The present owners purchased the property in 1997 and have operated the letting accommodation since 2004. It is a change of personal circumstances that bring this charming property to the market.
