The town is located in Ayrshire near to Kilmarnock. Located in the Irvine valley where lace making was one of the main industries the town has a population of around 5000. There is both primary and secondary schooling at Loudon academy located on the edge of the town. There are also good recreational facilities located nearby including 18 hole golf course. The town has also recently been awarded government funding for regeneration work to the town centre.
The Tavern is a very popular business with locals generating income from both food and wet sales. The restaurant which can also be used for small functions is used each week by the local Rotary club. This room can also be used for small private parties etc though the current owner has not promoted this facility and this is an area of potential growth for the business. Food is only offered at weekends with the main bar open all day attracting regular local customers.
