This is a completely fitted full service flower and gift shop. The décor for the shop is charming and natural making a perfect background to show the flowers and other merchandise to best advantage. A walk in refrigerator holds the fresh floral inventory. Two display coolers in the sales area are stocked with roses and other specialty flowers and completed flowers arrangements. Inventory of containers, ribbons and seasonal merchandise is stored in the loft area above the workroom and in the barn. The workroom is outfitted with a double sink, storage shelves and a specially designed work table. An additional back room is used for an office, break room and delivery staging area. A networked computer system consisting of a server, point of sale terminal and a workstation is used to run the business. Customer purchase history is a feature of the special software designed especially for the retail florist. There are over 3000 customer names in the database. The store uses two voice phone lines and three data lines. Extensive records have been kept outlining wholesale floral purchases, staffing schedules and business details for all major floral holidays for the past several years. These are the blueprint for planning for future holidays. Two regional fresh flower wholesalers provide the majority of the merchandise for the floral aspects of the business. They deliver regularly, filling orders placed the evening before. Generally flowers are received three days a week to minimize delivery charges. A local grower is the source for seasonal blooming plants and another supplies green plants. Some containers and artificial flowers and other trims are purchased from a regional wholesaler. Much of the gift merchandise is purchased from a single international supplier that offers a great variety. Other gift items are ordered directly from the manufacturers. Fruit is purchased from a local super market because the volume does not support buying wholesale. Snacks are purchase from one of the floral wholesalers or directly from suppliers. (There is potential for growing the fruit/snack basket business by soliciting orders from local corporations.)
