Business description
The timber industry in South Africa consists of many different aspects. Board/timber companies purchase chipboards or medium density fiber boards for re-sale to furniture manufacturer, kitchen manufacturer, shop fitters and the general public.
The boards which are plain or ‘raw’ require a veneer or surface application in order to sell to the various manufacturers. This is referred to as “upgrading’ in the industry. A veneer skin or foil is applied to the board by means of glue and then pressed in a hot foil press to join both components together. The veneers come in every type of wood finish available… Oak, pine, maple, cherry and plenty more. The pressed board can then be cut, edged and sealed to be used in a variety of ways i.e cupboards, doors, tables, furniture, kitchen units etc.
This board pressing business is very easy to run and has a big opportunity to be improved. The owner has not done any advertising nor has he got a sales person in order to get more contracts in.
