XYZ Trucking & Logistics has been serving their customers since 1986. Their primary business is the movement of freight throughout California through both Less-than-Truckload (LTL) and TL. They specialize in consolidation and distribution logistics. XYZ has three locations and can deliver to almost every point in California. They specialize in overnight service. They have interchange agreements with the major west coast railroads and port facilities.

XYZ has approximately 40 full time employees and key management in place. 17 of their employees have been with the company over 10 years. The company also utilizes 40-50 owner-operator drivers. The current owner is not heavily involved in day-to-day operations. He leaves that primarily to his executive team. However, he is open to staying on for about a year as a consultant to make the transition smooth for a buyer.

The company has nearly doubled their net profit margins from 2004 to 2007 and their already impressive gross profit margins have grown from about 38% in 2004 to about 43% in 2007. Southern California continues to grow as a major distribution center (mostly driven by foreign imports from Asia), making the opportunities for this company’s growth significant and largely untapped. There have not been any formal efforts to grow in their Northern California market. This market holds much untapped growth potential for XYZ.
