We provide a valuable service of millwright, fabrication and industrial maintenance repair to all market sectors throughout the islands of St. Thomas and St. John. This service is custom, creative, highly technical that meet high precision standards. We provide several services that are superior to other providers on both islands.

Although there are limited “manufactures” in the US Virgin Islands, there are machines requiring maintenance and repair. There is the need to keep the road construction equipment up and in good working order, the water treatment plants pumping, the printing press printing, the airplanes flying, the marine industry ferrying passengers, the concrete plant grinding, the automobiles running and so on.

CMMD delivers superior services and like new quality that people of the Virgin Islands have not known before. We provide an array of versatile services such as but not limited to the following services:

We are proud to have so much of our time, experience and money invested in providing options for our customers’ success. We provide an honest evaluation of any repair asked of us. We also provide options and education to our customers. If it is less expensive to replace with a new one, we will order it. When a repair requires parts, the customer has the choice to obtain them himself or we can supply them. When repair manuals are necessary, we refer to them and show our customer how to extend the life of their equipment with proper maintenance. If a design failure caused a part to fail we evaluate all the options available to us to re-design a new part and if it does not fit or it fails we re-do it until it is right. Our customers are amazed with the results of their finished products. Each day at least one new customer arrives saying my friend or brother told me to ask if you could fix it.

We have consistently turned away thousands of dollars a month because of our physical size, number of staff and a never-ending workload and backlog. However, with all the business CMMD does turn away, we have never lost a customer. They come back again another day only with another project.

Over the past eight years, CMMD has worked very hard to build its infrastructure and the process in which to deliver the highest quality of repair and fabrication rarely seen in the US Virgin Islands. We have won the Virgin Islands Daily News Reader Poll Awards for two years in categories for the Best in Machining and Welding Fabrication. We have an excellent credit rating and relationship with all our vendors.

CMMD operates as a walk in facility for repair services. Customers are required to leave a full non-refundable deposit for special order needs to complete the project. Large projects require a 50% labor deposit before a project begins. All Customers are required to pay in full before they receive their finished product. We accept cash or check only.

CMMD has a combination of resources in suppliers, the Internet and periodical updates giving us an advantage for new and cost saving techniques and processes. This combination has created strength in our ability to adapt to the local market demand. We have adapted to include a wider variety of automotive machining services as we did in 2002 to present. We have continually added to this segment by recently adding diesel engine cylinder heads and most recently, the ability now to bore engine blocks.

In 2004, we purchased larger machines increasing our turning of shafts from 1 and ¼ inch to 4 and ¼ inch diameter. The larger the machine capacity the larger a part can be to re-machined. This has enabled us to expand further into the water treatment, heavy equipment markets.

There is a strong need for precision industrial maintenance repair through out the Islands of St. Thomas and St. John. Due our unique locale, and current market conditions we have experienced an increase in demand for our services as more companies and individuals look for cost saving venues in maintaining and repair of their own equipment and machinery. Without a full service repair facility, residents and business owners must use the substandard services that are available or ship their items to Puerto Rico or the US Mainland. A goal is to keep the money in the territory and provide industry support with our unsurpassed quality of service and precision.

Our competitors price range from $65-$75 per hour for machining and $65-$135 per hour for welding. We have set our price at $100 per hour since 2004. We also have a $35 minimum rate for repairs that may only take 10-15 minutes to complete as well as a rush rate of $180 per hour. Our customers have accepted these rates due to our competitive advantage of our unsurpassed reputation of quality, precision and trust.

Our rarely used robotic Plasma Cutter opens up a whole new world, such as the retail to the tourist trade in the quick manufacture of metal trinkets, sculptures, and furniture. Main Competitors: Quality Machining, Sub Base, St. Thomas, small machining and repair projects. Merced Marine Repairs, Independent Boat Yard, St. Thomas, small marine repair. JB Head, Sub Base, St. Thomas, re-surface of automotive cylinder heads. Sub Base Dry Dock, St. Thomas, large repair projects on large marine vessels. Although Quality Machining and Mercede Marine Repairs are competition as they accommodate in the repair industry, they are not equipped to do many projects due to equipment and or expertise restraints. We have developed a strong relationship with both that they refer their customers to CMMD with the highest regard to our quality, precision and honestly "doing it right the first time". Sub Base Dry Dock is a full service marine repair for large vessels up to 160'. JB Head Machine Shop services automotive cylinder heads. Quality Machining' strength is being a good machinist who produces relatively precision and accurate work. His weaknesses are the size of his facility, no staff, his age and his health. He plans to retire in Dec 2009. Mercede Marine Repairs' strength is a boat yard location giving him close proximity of vessels and his equipment. Their weakness is they are not precision machining and repair. Their repair work consists of changing hoses, clamps and propeller re-alignment. JB Head Machine Shops' strength is a yellow page listing under automotive repair. His weakness is the quality of work is substandard and unreliable. Only a few reference manuals are used for accuracy and no warrantee is given, "if the engine starts it's fixed". Sub Base Dry Docks' strength is a dry-dock accommodating up to 160' vessel for repairs. Their weakness is the limitation to serve only the marine industry. Since CMMD provides services to all the major industries in the territory, we are in a favorable position to adjust our focus at any time while remaining steady in those markets we already have become proficient. The marine industry has suffered great loses over the years and Sub Base Dry Dock has recently cut it's workforce by 5 as of March, 2009. Mercede Marine Repairs has shifted its focus from a repair and machining service to boat yard manager with small repair service. As JB Head’s quality has diminished, their market of engine cylinder heads has become a target of ours. Over the years, we have expanded our automotive machining into a wider variety of services to include diesel engine machining, marine outboard machining, crankshaft polishing, re-surface brake drum and rotors, driveline parts and gears and now the capability to bore engine blocks. By adding the necessary equipment and services we have become a leader in the ability to also serve more machining and repair needs in the heavy equipment and truck industry as well as larger projects from the water treatment sector in the hotel and condominium industries.
