Business description
The owner established the business in 1993 after spending five years as a self employed mason in the same industry. The company concentrates solely on the supply of headstones to individual families and local organisations. The extensive range of headstones on offer includes many types to suit all budgets. The headstones are displayed in the showroom facilities, enabling clients to view the products at first hand.
The staff are both friendly and experienced to ensure that clients needs are met in terms of price and service.
The company has excellent relationships with its suppliers and as you would expect they have a superb reputation within the local community. They regularly receive new clients as referrals from the local undertakers, who are happy to recommend their quality service.
Property information
- Location:
- The premises are situated on a small business park, just off the town centre, but close to the main road. They have ample parking and premises are circa 2,000sq.ft. There is an entrance lobby with sample headstones on view and a main private showroom for completing transactions. A small office is adjacent to the showroom with separate kitchen and wc.
The workshop is split into two, with sandblasting in one part and storage and finishing in the other part. There is also a small yard area at the back of the workshop which at present is used for extra storage. This could be utilised in a number of other ways, with a possibility to extend the workshop area.
The rent for the leasehold premises is circa £12,000 per annum with rates of £3,000 per annum. The lease expires in 2010, but the current owner suggests that the landlord would be keen to secure a new tenant.
Other information
- Expansion potential:
- All of the headstones and memorials are bought in ready cut. Whilst the quality and reliability is excellent, this does have an effect on the profit margin. By ordering uncut stones and perfoming the cutting themselves, they would dramatically increase their profits. There is also a demand from the local kitchen fitters, suppliers and property developers for someone to supply locally, marble worktops, cut to their specific requirements. All that would need to be invested in, is the equipment necessary, to be able to cut stone in their workshop.
- Support & training:
- The business runs smoothly and is easy to administrate. The owner will be happy to help with a smooth transfer, training and handover.
- Reasons for selling:
- The owner has now been in business for over thirty five years, and feels the time is right for him to retire, take things a little easier and enjoy life to the full.
