Business Profile:

Formed in September 2001 by the four Directors, this business is a private limited company backed by its Directors and a small group of private shareholders, and is an independent pest control service, operating mainly throughout Scotland and the main island communities, while also developing strong links in Europe, America and Australia.

The business is building a solid reputation as a reliable and efficient provider of pest control services. With wide experience in pest control and wildlife in general, the business has developed services to tackle the problems of bird behaviour.

The business has developed a realistic model peregrine controlled by state of the art software that looks, sounds and moves like a real bird. Peregrines have been known to attack over 100 species of birds; this makes the product extremely effective against all nuisance birds and is a very successful bird repellent.

The business has the technical knowledge, experience and contacts that were needed to design and build the new product, which has gone through the cycle of development from lash up to prototype, prototype to pre-production, pre-production to production and now into a second cycle for a new high tech variant incorporating cellular telephone technology.

In parallel a testing programme has verified that the product is effective as a bird deterrent and can withstand the rigours of wind and weather on top of high buildings. The first production version was shipped to customers in July 2002. Early customers took products on extended trials, which have been successful and resulted in firm orders for the Company.

Typical customers to date have been large corporations with pressing bird control problems. However, birds have also been provided to resident associations and the Company are currently awaiting orders from private householders with severe bird problems.

The robotic bird is designed to be an extremely effective method of moving pigeons and gulls because it utilises the bird’s inherent fear of falco Peregrinus, the Peregrine Falcon.
Peregrine falcons feed on a wide variety of birds.

Typically birds do not hang around pondering whether the falcon is likely to attack or not, preferring to play safe and leave the area. The objective is to firstly cause a panic reaction so that the pest birds will fly away. Secondly, to convey to birds that a peregrine falcon has taken up residence in their territory, so there is no point in returning.

The list of satisfied customers is growing rapidly, and early customers include - Standard Life (Edinburgh), Hortons Property Management (Birmingham), Schlumberger Exploration and Production (Aberdeen), and East Midlands Electricity Board (Derby).
