Set in the midst of this beautiful area lies the Kneipp/climatic therapy resort of Freudenstadt with its wide range of holidays for young and old, for sports enthusiasts and for guests who just intend to switch off for a while.

Freudenstadt was founded in 1599 and built in the late Renaissance style by Heinrich Schickhardt. Schickhardt, also referred to as "Swabia's Leonardo da Vinci" was the architectural planner employed by Duke Friedrich I, whose intention was to build a palace in the center of Freudenstadt. However, the sudden death of the Duke meant that the plans were abandoned. This is why Freudenstadt can boast Germany's largest market square entirely surrounded by buildings and which, as the central point in the city, serves as a venue for numerous events and simply invites our guests to dally a while.

Cycling in spring, golfing in summer, hiking in autumn, skiing in winter or simply "pure relaxation" - the possibilities are endless in Freudenstadt. A diverse range of leisure activities and places to go for the whole family round off the possibilities and turn every stay into an experience.

THE HOTEL
Set in extensive landscaped and wooded ground approaching 2 acres (7300m2) the hotels offers guest a wide range of amenities including wellness centre, indoor swimming pool all set in quiet of the rural surroundings. There area is also ideal for many kinds of summer and winter sports. The spa centre of Freudenstadt can be reached on foot and the 18 hole golf course is right next door. Horses are available for riding tours. Barbecues in the forest, carriage rides and bowling afternoons. The hotel has been in the same family for four generations and has seen unrivalled growth and improvement over recent years.

The comfortably furnished rooms can accommodate 85 guests. Together with the highly equipped conference room they provide an ideal venue for conferences and training sessions.

The hotel has a stylish restaurant where they serve national and international specialities, the menu is a passionate statement written by the enthusiastic chef. His philosophy is based on one idea: freshness.

Guests are encouraged to the new Wellness Area "Aqua Viva" with the Finnish Kelotimber sauna or the sanarium (biosauna 60oC) with crystal lighting, bird twitter and brooklet. They can also use the Beauty treatments staffed by experts who treatments and knowledge are second to none.

Accommodation and Layout
Hotel Gruner Wald is approached through its car park to an entrance porch leading into the Reception Area with the reception desk to the left. Carrying on this way the Lounge area leads off with an open fire and a door to the rear sun terrace providing outdoor eating space.

At the end of the Lounge area steps leadind down to the Beauty,Wellness Area and the Swimming Pool, Sauna, and Fitness Room.

Upstairs from the lounge sees access on two floors to the majority of the bedrooms, may having balconys, many facing south. Some single rooms are in this area.

From the reception area to the right there is access to the lower ground floor for guest toilets and via stairs to further guest bedrooms on two floors and to staff bedrooms on the third floor.

Also on the ground floor is the bar area with dining places and three dining rooms all highly characterful in the Black Forest way.

The dining rooms are laid out so that private functions can be catered for as well as accommodating hotel guests.

The hotel has a thriving local business complimenting the tourist trade, many clients returning year after year. The hotel is favoured by local businesses entertaining clients and accommodating them for short or long term stays. There are two meeting rooms on the lower ground floor along with full laundry facilities and additional staff facilities.

There is also a fully fitted kitchen with access to the dining rooms and the bar and ample food storage space as would be expected.

The gardens are laid out for sun bathing, a peaceful small lake and childrens area. Car parking is on two levels to the north side of the property. There is also a terrace at the front of the hotel offering more covers for outdoor eating.

Stuttgart and Karlsruhe can be reached with the ICE, IC/EC trains, and Hausach with the IR trains of the Deutsche Bahn AG.

When approaching from Karlsruhe you arrive in the Stadtbahnhof, approaching from Stuttgart and Hausach the train takes you to the Hauptbahnhof (central station) in Freudenstadt where you can pick up a connection to the Stadtbahnhof.
