Alford itself also boasts many attractions including Grampian Transport Museum and Alford Valley Railway, Heritage Centre and Craigievar Castle. Although a small town, it also has an 18-hole golf course, dry ski slope and highly regarded primary and secondary schooling. On the outskirts of the village is Haughton Country Park which includes a large holiday caravan park. The desirability of Alford can be seen by a new development of housing on the outskirts of the town as well as others that have recently been constructed.
